Eligibility

Prospective Academy Postdoctoral Fellows should have an exceptional record of scholarship, unusual promise for future intellectual achievement, and a commitment to build a community within the Rice Academy. Applicants for the 2024 competition should have completed all requirements for the doctorate between September 1, 2021, and August 31, 2024. The Rice University Academy of Fellows does not accept applications from current Rice postdoctoral fellows. Rice Faculty with tenure-track appointments in the listed departments below may serve as mentors to Junior Fellows. The Academy prioritizes candidates applying to work with eligible Rice faculty who have not accepted a new academy-funded Junior Fellow in the last five years.

Non-U.S. citizens are eligible to apply. For those who win a position in the Academy and do not have U.S. citizenship or permanent residency, Rice will sponsor a nonimmigrant visa. You may want to contact the Office of International Students & Scholars (OISS) concerning details on the proper visa status at that time. There also may be a required English Skype interview for some individuals.
