BIOGRAPHY

Yiming Liu obtained his Ph.D. in Civil and Environmental Engineering from UCLA in 2023, and B.S. in Environmental Engineering from Tsinghua University in 2018. Yiming is currently interested in exploiting interfacial processes to extract valuable resources from waste brines. Yiming’s doctoral study focuses on harnessing interfacial energy transfer for enhanced treatment of brines. At Rice University, Yiming is working with Prof. Qilin Li in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. The goal of Yiming's research at Rice is development of novel material interfaces that enable selective separation of rare earth metals, one of critical minerals for sustainable energy transition. Yiming has several hobbies, including traveling, swimming, skateboarding, and watching stand-up comedies. Fun fact: Houston has the most similar climate to that of Yiming's hometown, compared to other major US cities - Yiming is feeling back home here!
