Dr. Gayatri Viswanathan

BIOGRAPHY

Gayatri is a 2026 Rice Advanced Materials Institute (RAMI) Postdoctoral Fellow co-advised by Prof. Geoffroy Hautier (MSNE) and Prof. Emilia Morosan (PHYA). A native Houstonian, she obtained her B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Houston, then completed her Ph.D. in Inorganic Chemistry at Iowa State University and Ames National Laboratory. Her expertise lies in inorganic solid state chemistry and understanding structure-composition-property relationships in complex extended solids for energy applications. She is the recipient of prestigious accolades including the 2024 ACS Division of Inorganic Chemistry Young Investigator Award and induction to the CAS Future Leaders program, recognizing both her research achievements and potential for leadership within the field of chemistry.

At Rice, Gayatri is leading the development of an autonomous laboratory for the discovery, synthesis, and characterization of new inorganic solid materials. This interdisciplinary and highly collaborative research leverages resources and expertise at Rice in robotics, high-throughput computation, artificial intelligence, and advanced materials development. Outside of research, Gayatri enjoys traveling, cooking, Legos/puzzles, and spending time with friends and family.
