BIOGRAPHY
Dr. Zheng Ren received his B.S. in Physics from University of Science and Technology of China in 2015 and his Ph.D. in Physics from Boston College in 2022.
An experimental condensed matter physicist, Zheng is broadly interested in creating, understanding and manipulating quantum materials. During his Ph.D., Zheng used a combination of molecular beam epitaxy and spectroscopic imaging scanning tunneling microscopy to synthesize and investigate several thin film quantum materials, including unconventional superconductors and topological magnets.
As a Rice Academy Fellow, Zheng will be working with Prof. Ming Yi in the Department of Physics and Astronomy to develop a complex system integrating molecular beam epitaxy and angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy, which has the capability to directly look at the intriguing electronic structure of thin film quantum materials.
In his life outside the lab, Zheng is a fan of powerlifting and can often be seen in the Rice gym.
